It is a large-scale specialized mental health hospital integrating clinical medical services, scientific research, teaching, and public mental health services, it is one of Shanghai's first practical training bases for psychological counseling practitioners, and serves as an implementation, training, and research center for psychotherapy techniques in Shanghai and even nationwide.

The hospital has clinical departments including Psychiatry, Internal Medicine (Geriatrics specialty), Psychological Counseling, Traditional Chinese Medicine, Prevention and Treatment, Clinical Laboratory, and Medical Imaging, with a total of 7 inpatient wards. It can admit and treat various mental disorder patients such as schizophrenia, affective mental disorders, organic mental disorders, senile mental disorders, neuroses, as well as patients with drug dependence, providing high-quality medical and nursing services. It has established several specialized clinics and special disease outpatient services including Child and Adolescent Mental Health, Geriatric Psychiatry, and Depression. Among these, the Senile Dementia specialty and Mood Disorders specialty are key disciplines in Pudong New Area.

The hospital currently operates two campuses and one practice point, with 510 approved beds and 800 actually available beds, the Shuyuan campus under construction has 1,000 approved beds. It is a large-scale, fully-functional specialized mental health hospital that integrates clinical medical services, scientific research, teaching, and public mental health services. Currently, there are nearly 300 staff members, among whom 23% of physicians hold senior professional titles, and 55.8% have master's degrees or higher.
